Conservation tillage and stratification of soil properties: a summary of the special issue in soil and tillage research (2002). International Soil Tillage Research Organization Proceedings. p. 436. CD-ROM. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: This paper summarizes the contributions of 10 papers presented as part of a special issue on stratification of soil organic matter under conservation tillage management. Papers represented lead authors from USA, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Morocco, Spain, and Germany. Topics explored, included: (1) reviews of soil organic matter, aggregation, and porosity with conservation tillage in temperate and tropical ecosystems, (2) examples of field studies demonstrating changes in soil organic matter, soil structure, microbial biomass, various nutrients, and pollutants, and (3) calculation of stratification ratios as a method to indicate soil quality across a range of soil and environmental conditions. |
