Citation: Kwanyuen, P., Burton, J.W. 2005. A simple and rapid procedure for phytate determination in soybean and soybean products. Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, Vol. 82 no.2:81-85.

Interpretive Summary: The paper describes a rapid and simple analytical procedure for determination of phytic acid which is a principal storage form of phosphorus in soybean and other oilseed crops. The technique requires minimal sample preparation. It also describes an automated system of high performance liquid chromatography analysis for large numbers of sample and the system maintenance for long-term operation. Determination of phytate content in a variety of soybean samples including other animal feeds demonstrates the simplicity, reliability, and economy of the procedure compared to other time-consuming, complicated, and laborious methods.

Technical Abstract: A rapid and simple analytical procedure for determination of phytate (myo-inositol hexaphosphate) in soybean and soybean products is described. Minimal sample preparation and automated HPLC analysis for large numbers of sample were achieved. Determination of phytate content in a variety of soybean samples including other animal feeds demonstrates the simplicity, reliability, and economy of the procedure compared to other time-consuming, complicated, and laborious methods.
