Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: A rapid and simple analytical procedure for determination of phytate (myo-inositol hexaphosphate) in soybean and soybean products is described. The procedure was based on Rounds and Nielsen's (J. Chromatography 653:148, 1993) approach. Minimal sample preparation and automated HPLC analysis for large numbers of sample were achieved. Maintenance and cleaning-up of the automated HPLC analysis and its potential error in chromatographic peak integration after long period of continuous operation will be presented and discussed. Determination of phytate content in variety of soybean samples including other animal feeds demonstrates the simplicity, reliability, and economics of the procedure compared to other time-consuming, complicated, and laborious methods.
