Production and charaterization of mouse monoclonal antibodies detecting e. tenella apical complex proteins.. American Association of Avian Pathologists Proceedings, p. 85. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Eimeria is a major intestinal parasitic disease of poultry resulting in more than a $700 million loss to the U.S. poultry industry. At least 7 major Eimeria species cause coccidiosis in poultry, each one inducing species-specific immunity. Due to increasing occurrence of drug resistant Eimeria strains, new control strategies are needed. One of the strategies for coccidiosis control involves the development of recombinant vaccines. In this report, we have developed and characterized mouse monoclonal antibodies to Eimeria tenella apical complex proteins. Several of them recognized proteins of micronemes, secretory organelles located at the tip of invading stages of all apical complex parasites. Characterization of these proteins will lead to better understanding of parasite invasion of host and will lead to the development of new control strategy against coccidiosis. |
