The highly regulated Cms has been found in Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Spain, and The Netherlands, countries with extensive trade with RF. Ring rot is favored by cool climates common to potato-growing regions of the RF. To determine the genetic diversity within the Russian population of these two pathogens, over 100 suspect strains of Cms and Cmm were collected from diseased potatoes and tomatoes from different regions of RF in 2002/2003. After cloning and confirming the identification by pathogenicity tests, 32 strains of Cms and 39 strains of Cmm were analyzed by AP- and rep-PCR. The Russian strains of Cmm and Cms were easily distinguished from each other and from their respective type strains. |
