Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: US Production capacity of fuel ethanol is growing rapidly due to rising energy costs among many other factors. Quick and accurate analysis of process innovations is essential to designers and producers aspiring to thrive in the fast growing fuel ethanol industry. Commercial process simulation software is ideally suited to support and drive process innovation and quicken accurate economic assessment. This seminar will describe and demonstrate how. Topics will include the design workflow from material and energy balances to economic analysis. We will cover physical properties, feed preparation modeling, models of the distillation and ethanol drying areas, and a cost summary of the distillation unit. The demonstration theme will be based on an integrated model of a dry-mill fuel ethanol process authored by the USDA.
