Evidence of a genomic recombination between bcmnv and bcmv. Proceedings of the Bean Improvement Cooperative, Oct 27-29, Sacramento, CA, 2003. In Annual Report 47:121-122. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: An isolate of Bean common mosaic necrosis virus (BCMNV) from Kimberly, ID was initially identified using ELISA and dry bean host range studies as the NL-3 strain. However, the isolate, designated NL-3 K, differed from the standard Drijfhout strain (NL-3 D) across some bean lines by causing more severe symptoms of mosaic, vein necrosis, chlorosis and stunting. Deduced amino acid sequence data obtained near the 5' terminal of the P1 region revealed the NL-3 K strain to be a genomic recombinant between NL-3 D and the Blackeye cowpea strain of Bean common mosaic virus (BCMV). To our knowledge, this is the first occurrence of genomic recombination between strains of two distinctly different virus genera within the Potyviridae. |
