Citation: Williams, G.D., Rosentrater, K.A. 2004. Design considerations for the construction and operation of grain elevator facilities. Part I. Planning, structural, and life safety considerations. Proceedings, ASAE/CSAE Annual International Meeting. August 1-4, 2004. Ottawa, ON, Canada.

Interpretive Summary: Grain elevators represent a major portion of our food production system. To date, information about the unique design requirements of these facilities has been limited. In an effort to summarize state of the art design procedures for grain elevator facilities constructed in North America, an overview of accepted standards and procedures has been assembled. With this paper engineers and designers should become more familiar with specific design considerations for grain handling facilities and develop appropriate references to expand their knowledge base further. Educators may find this paper useful too.
