Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: This structurally diverse collection of 20 articles is the third in a series of special issues of the European Journal of Plant Pathology that highlight EU-sponsored research on agriculturally important mycotoxigenic fungi. The first two issues of the series, which were published in 2002 and 2003, focused on taxonomy, epidemiology, and mycotoxin production. The latest issue focuses mainly on the use of DNA sequence variation for phylogenetic analysis, for developing rapid methods for identifying fungal species, and for determining if these species contain genes for mycotoxin biosynthesis.
