Effect of Sugarcane Varieties and Male Pheromone Patches on the Mobility of the Silky Cane Weevil (Coleoptera:Curculionidae). Entomological Society of America Annual Meeting. Interpretive Summary: ABSTRACT ONLY Technical Abstract: Studies were conducted to determine the effect of different sugarcane varieties and the presence of the weevil's male-pheromone patches on trap captures of the Silky Cane weevil, Metamasius hemipterus (Oliv.). More weevils were captured on sugarcane varieties with thicker stalks and medium to high sugar contents and in buckets that were close to the pheromone patches than those that did not have the patches. This information is a requisite to forecast the onset of the weevil in certain areas susceptible to attack, and could be used as baseline information in control treatments of the Silk Cane weevil in South Florida. |
