Interpretive Summary: Factors that regulate the cellular development of fat tissue were reviewed.. The potential of mature fat cells to lose their fat and become non fat cells and capable of cell division is discussed. The potential of cell culture procedures to study the process of fat cell conversion to non fat cells is also discussed. Several studies indicate that mature fat cells can revert to several types of non fat cells. Therefore, stimulating fat cells to revert to non fat cells represents a potential point of regulating adipose tissue accretion in in the growing animal.
