Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Abstract: Toll-like receptor (TLR) family members are responsible for recognizing the presence of invading microorganisms through pathogen-associated molecular patterns and initiation of immune responses. Recently, several chicken TLR's have been identified, including TLR7, which is reported to be involved with recognition of ribonucleic acid components characteristic of viral genomes (e.g. ssRNA). In this study, we compared the innate immune response of the avian macrophage cell line, HD11 (TLR7+), to the synthetic TLR7 agonist Loxoribine and live or killed Newcastle disease virus. In addition, the phylogenetic relationship of various TLR7's from avian and mammalian origin will be discussed.
