Interpretive Summary: The USDA, ARS Pecan Breeding Program remains the largest and most productive pecan breeding program in the world. We have released 24 scion cultivars, some of which are the most productive and disease resistant cultivars available today. In addition to the Scion Breeding Program, we conduct a Rootstock Breeding Program. Crosses for this program began in 1996, and are continued each year. This report summarizes recent breeding program activities, including crosses made, pecan clones grafted for advanced testing, and USDA cultivar performance in different areas of the country, especially the Western U.S.

Technical Abstract: USDA conducts the largest pecan breeding program in the world. Twenty-four cultivars have been released. Cultivars have been produced for all pecan growing areas of the world. This report briefly summarizes the overall breeding objectives, reviews recent crossing efforts, details recent advanced test instillations, and discusses the performance of recently released USDA cultivars, especially in the Western U.S. Detailed descriptions and discussions are presented for Pawnee, Hopi, Navaho, Oconee, Osage, and Nacono. In addition to the Scion Breeding Program, we conduct a Rootstock Breeding Program. Crosses for this program began in 1996, and are continued each year.
