Interpretive Summary: Pecan crop losses due to hurricanes is a serious problem for pecan producers in the southeastern U.S. The potential for future hurricanes influences management decisions and plans for orchard establishment. Information is provided that describes how to minimize hurricane damage to orchards and how hurricane cycles between the Gulf and Atlantic coasts are expected to influence pecan farming in the southeastern U.S. This information provides farmers with an understanding of what is happening with hurricane storm cycles and how their farming operations are likely to be influenced by these over the next 30 years.
