St. Paul, MN Interpretive Summary: Violet root rot of beet, caused by Rhizoctonia crocorum is a minor disease in the United States and a more important problem in other beet growing areas. Symptoms, disease cycle, and disease management are discussed in this chapter. Technical Abstract: Violet root rot of sugar beet, a disease caused by Rhizoctonia crocorum, is a sporadic problem in the United States, and more common in Europe. The disease can cause reduced sugar yield. Symptoms include purple spots on the root surface and rot. Epidemiology and management strategies are discussed. |
