Does time of whitefly infestation affect the development of tomato irregular ripening disorder?. 88th Annual Meeting of the Florida Entomological Society. July 24-27. Ft. Myers, FL. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Our objective was to determine if tomato irregular ripening disorder (TIR) will develop in a healthy plant that is introduced to whiteflies at different developmental stages of plant growth: 5-7 true leaf, flower, green fruit, and breaking red fruit. Time of whitefly infestation did not significantly affect the development of TIR when whiteflies were introduced at 5-7 leaf, flower or green fruit stages of plant growth (95 to 100% of the fruit developed TIR). Surprisingly, 80% of the plants infested at breaking red fruit stage also developed TIR. |
