Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: As part of the overall pesticide registration process, environmental fate and transport data are needed to assess the environmental behavior of pesticide under specific use conditions and use patterns. Current registration practices require the prediction of potential exposure of pesticides in terrestrial ecosystems as well as in ground and surface waters associated with their use in agriculture. These estimates are usually based on a predefined realistic worst-case scenario of pollution for each exposure route derived from computer simulation approaches. Since the passage of FQPA, the EPA has initiated a process of applying environmental fate and transport models to predict the environmental concentrations of pesticides. The objective of this symposium is to highlight recent developments in the application of exposure models in pesticide registration. |
