Synthesis and characterization of biobased lubricant additives [abstract]. 97th American Oil Chemists' Society Annual Meeting and Expo. p. 73. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: The amphiphilic character of vegetable oils makes them an excellent candidate as lubricants and as specialty chemicals. This work describes the synthesis and characterization of sulfur incorporated vegetable oils for possible application as antiwear additives for biodegradable lubricants. The current process retains the vegetable oil structure, eliminates poly-unsaturation in the molecule, and adds polar functional groups that will improve adsorption on metal surfaces. |
