Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: To address the opportunities presented by the growing quantity of distillers grains in the US, a strategic partnership has been formed between MBI International, South Dakota State University, and the United States Department of Agriculture – Agricultural Research Service. This partnership is actively engaged in research to simultaneously benefit the ag-based renewable fuels industry as well as livestock producers. A key to this partnership is the pursuit of meaningful research that will directly benefit stakeholders. Thus, to help align research efforts, a focus group was held to identify and prioritize research needs for those companies that produce distillers grains, those who utilize these feeds in their livestock rations, and other stakeholders who play key roles in the rapidly growing ethanol industry. This paper provides a summary of the outcomes from this focusing effort.
