Surface treatment for controlling insects in stored grain: laboratory and field studies [abstract]. Presentation 2006 Nebraska Urban Pest Management Conference, Lincoln, NE, January 26-27, 2006. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Insecticide applications are often made to the top surface of a grain mass to control insect pests, but there are little data to show that this is an effective practice. Laboratory and field tests were conducted with diatomaceous earth to control the lesser grain borer in stored wheat. Survival is decreased with increasing depth of the DE-treated layer and with exposure interval, however, the lesser grain borer can penetrate this treated layer and reproduce in the untreated wheat below. |
