Elastohydrodynamic properties of vegetable oils [abstract]. 97th AOCS Annual Meeting & Expo Abstracts. p. 74. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Vegetable oils have several attractive features for use in lubrication. They are renewable, non-toxic, and environmentally friendly. They also have certain physical and chemical characteristics that make them potentially useful components for lubrication application. However, successful development of vegetable oils for application in lubrication requires overcoming certain inherent features, which are widely observed in vegetable oils and inhibit its application in lubrication. In addition, vegetable oils comprise a wide variety of chemistries that is dependent on the nature of the crop from which it is extracted. The effect of chemical variability on the tribological properties of vegetable oils has yet to be fully understood. In this work, the effect of vegetable oil physical/chemical properties on its elastohydrodynamic properties is examined. |
