Interpretive Summary: In-field plant sensing is subject to varying image intensity under the change of ambient illumination. An optical sensing system was proposed for in-field plant sensing. In order for robust performance, A fuzzy logic controller was applied to compensate varying image intensity and control the image quality within target brightness by adjusting camera parameters. Camera parameter settings with high exposure and low gain supported the stable reflectance response by converging image into a desired image brightness within a second. Technical Abstract: A multi-spectral imaging sensor has been proposed for in-field plant sensing. In order for robust performance under changes in ambient illumination, an algorithm was developed to control the image pixel distribution to fall brightness within a target gray level by adjusting camera parameters to compensate varying image intensity. A fuzzy logic controller was applied to control exposure and gain to maintain the desired image quality. Camera parameter settings with high exposure and low gain supported the stability of the reflectance response. Images affected by ambient illumination converged into a desired image within a second. |
