Kashmirobia, a new genus of flea beetles from the oriental region (coleoptera: chrysomelidae). Zootaxa. 1377:61-68. Interpretive Summary: Leaf beetles, especially flea beetles, are among the most important insects for U.S. agriculture. Many are serious pests and feed on crops destroying valuable plants. Others are important biological control agents that can be used to kill unwanted and invasive weeds. This work describes a new group of leaf beetles from continental Asia. We provide key characters, a description, and illustrations so that it may be identified and thus make it available for potential use in biological control projects. This study will be useful to biological control workers, taxonomists, ecologists, and anyone interested in plant-feeding beetles and their biology. Technical Abstract: A new genus, Kashmirobia, with the type species Aphthona hugeli Jacoby from the Oriental Region is described and illustrated. Comparative notes are provided. |
