New sources of resistance to tomato spotted wilt virus and leaf spot in the u.s. germplasm collection of peanut. Agronomy Abstracts. Interpretive Summary: not required Technical Abstract: Tomato Spotted Wilt Virus (TSWV) and leaf spot are significant disease on the U.S. peanut crop. Almost 1000 accessions have been added to the U.S. germplasm collection of peanut since this collection was last evaluated for resistance to TSWV and leaf spot. The objective of this research was to evaluate this recently introduced germplasm for sources of resistance. Preliminary field screening resulted in the identification of over 50 potential sources of resistance. These were then further examined in replicated field studies. Several accessions were identified that exhibited reduced TSWV ratings in comparison to the moderately resistant check cultivar, Georgia Green. Several accessions were also identified that exhibited reduced leaf spot ratings in comparison to the moderately resistant check cultivar, Southern Runner. Based on high disease resistance, and good yield potential, some of these accessions should be useful as parents for cultivar development. |
