A mirosatellite based test for slick hair phenotype in senepol-derived cattle [abstract]. Annual International Plant & Animal Genome Conference.Available: http://www.intl-pag.org/15/abstracts/PAG15_PO5k_548.html Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: We have recently mapped the slick hair locus to BTA 20 in Senepol derived cattle. Fine mapping helped to identify a haplotype block of conserved genotypes in all slick haired animals across all pedigrees. Two microsatellite markers (DIK2416 and NRDIKM023) were found to be tightly linked to slick phenotype in Senepol cattle. The usefulness of these markers for marker assisted selection was evaluated by genotyping a sample of Senepol bulls (n=66) in order to determine if known homozygotes could be identified. Additionally, three new microsatellite markers were designed from contig sequences in this region and further evaluated in these animals. The markers were also tested on Romosinuano cattle (n=6), which is another slick haired Bos taurus breed. Available results indicate the possibility for identifying homozygous slick animals in Senepol, Senepol-derived and Romosinuano cattle. Of the three new markers, one holds promise for use in diagnostic application. |
