Yaminia, a new genus of flea beetles from the Oriental Region (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae). The Coleopterists Bulletin. 61(4):574-580. Interpretive Summary: Leaf beetles, especially flea beetles, are among the most important insects for U.S. agriculture. Many are serious pests and feed on crops destroying valuable plants costing millions of dollars annually. Others are important biological control agents that can be used to kill unwanted and invasive weeds. This work describes a new leaf beetle genus from continental Asia, providing key characters, description, and illustrations to allow for its identification and thus make it available for potential use in biological control projects. This study will be useful to biological control workers, taxonomists, ecologists, and anyone interested in phytophagous beetles. Technical Abstract: A new genus and species of flea beetles, Yaminia gmelini from the Oriental region is described and illustrated with comparative notes and host plant information. |
