Interpretive Summary: The Medicago truncatula research community is rapidly enlarging and this model legume is increasingly used to address a broad range of scientific questions. In reflection of this the genetic and genomic resources in M. truncatula are expanding and the demand for these resources is also expanding. The integration of worldwide M. truncatula stock centre activities and the extension of these activities to include all M. truncatula genetic and genomic resources has been recognised as essential to meet the current and future needs of this research community. This chapter provides an overview of the major genetic stock centers for Medicago truncatula and discusses the formation of a single virtual stock center to support the research community.

Technical Abstract: As outlined in this chapter a number of genetic stock collections carry out activities that curate and supply a subset of the genetic and genomic resources in M. truncatula. While the activities of these centres are invaluable, they are not integrated and do not provide the full extent of resources available or in development. To better integrate and expand these activities we are looking to form a single virtual stock centre that integrates the diverse efforts around the globe.
