Arthropod Management Tests. 32:M6. Interpretive Summary: Bird cherry-oat aphid (BCOA) is one of the most common aphid pests of small grains worldwide. Triticale is a promising source of resistance to BCOA that may be developed further or crossed with wheat to transfer resistance to that crop. Several entries of triticale were evaluated against BCOA in a growth chamber test. The number of nymphs deposited by winged BCOA in the first 24 hours of infestation did not differ among entries. The number of BCOA per plant 13 days after infestation on triticale entries Chiva, Faro S, and Hare 212 was less than that on Arapahoe wheat, the susceptible check, and on Currency triticale. However, the number of BCOA on Chiva, Faro S, and Hare 212 was not different from that on N1186 triticale, the resistant check. The number of BCOA on Currency did not differ from that on Arapahoe. Results of this research show that triticale entries Chiva, Faro S, and Hare 212 are promising sources of resistance against BCOA.
