Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The complete genomic sequence of this Spodoptera frugiperda multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus (SfMNPV) clone was determined and analyzed from a field isolate collected in Missouri, USA. The SfMNPV genome was 131,330 bp with a 40.2% G+C content. Eight homologous repeat regions (hrs) were identified that consisted of 43-bp imperfect palindromes with significant sequence similarity to the hr repeats of Spodoptera exigua MNPV and Agrotis segetum NPV. One hundred and forty-four ORFs were identified, including the set of 62 genes found among all baculovirus genomes. Comparison of ORF content, order, and predicted amino acid sequences with other nucleopolyhedoviruses indicated that SfMNPV is part of a cluster of viruses within NPV group II that includes NPVs from Spodoptera, Agrotis, and Mamestra host species. SfMNPV-Missouri shared a high degree of nucleotide sequence similarity with other SfMNPV isolates that have been partially sequenced.
