Interpretive Summary: IDO602 is a hard red spring wheat developed by the Idaho Agricultural Experiment Stations and released in February 2003 for use in research and crop improvement programs. IDO602 is a semi dwarf wheat with resistance to Karnal bunt, causal organism Tilletia indica and stripe rust, causal organism Puccinia striiformis and has yields similar to standard cultivars. ID00602 will be a useful parent in wheat breeding programs interested in incorporating resistance to these diseases into improved cultivars. Seed of IDO602 will be maintained by the Idaho Agricultural Experiment Station

Technical Abstract: IDO602 (Reg. no. GP-776, PI 620628) is a short stature, medium maturity hard red spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) developed by the Idaho Agricultural Experiment Stations and released in February 2003 for use in research and crop improvement programs. In 9 site-years of irrigated and rain-fed trials from 2000 to 2001, IDO602 had yields similar to standard cultivars. Based on field evaluations in Idaho and Washington in 2000 and 2001, IDO602 has resistance to stripe rust (caused by Puccinia striiformis). ID0602 was also tested for resistance to Karnal bunt (caused by Tilletia indica) evaluated with artificial inoculation by injecting plants at boot stage with suspensions of allantoid secondary sporidia (10000 mL–1). In three years of replicated testing in 1997, 1998, and 1999 by CIMMYT at Ciudad Obregon, Mexico, using two dates of inoculation, IDO602 had 5% of kernels bunted in inoculated heads, which did not significantly differ from the resistant check, the durum cultivar ‘Yavaros 79. Seed of IDO602 will be maintained by the Idaho Agricultural Experiment Station
