Quantitative trait loci with additive effect on growth and carcass traits in a Wagyu-Limousin F*2 population. Animal Genetics 38:413-416. Interpretive Summary: Two hundred and one genetic markers were used to scan the genomes of 328 F*2 progeny in a Wagyu (Japanese Black) x Limousin cross for carcass traits. We have identified nine significant and four suggestive genomic regions affecting seven growth and carcass traits. Only one of these has been previously reported. The study presented here may lead to a better understanding of genetic differences between the Wagyu and Limousin breeds. Technical Abstract: In this study we performed a whole genome scan on 328 F*2 progeny in a Wagyu x Limousin cross derived from eight founder Wagyu bulls. We have identified nine significant and four suggestive QTL affecting seven growth and carcass traits of which only one QTL has been previously reported. The study presented here may lead to a better understanding of genetic differences between the Wagyu and Limousin breeds. |
