Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: This introductory talk will describe the various types of recombinant DNA vaccines that have been developed for the poultry industry. The talk will not discuss the efficacy of specific recombinant DNA vaccines. Instead, I will focus on describing how various recombinant vaccines are made and some advantages and disadvantages of each. In particular, I will describe plasmid-based, cosmid, bacterial artificial chromosomes, reverse genetics and virus-like particles. The talk will also address the use of immune modulators such as CpG islands and use of microparticles and emulsions to enhance delivery. |
