Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Agricultural byproducts are often not used to the extent possible. Here we demonstrate that these byproducts can be used as starting material for production of activated carbon. These carbons can be used for uptake of water contaminants such as trichloroethylene and perchloroethylene. We will show result from studies conducted in a water matrix and also, for comparison, the uptake from the gas phase by these carbons. The results are compared to commercial activated carbons made from coal.
