Handbook of forage and rangeland insects: Timothy Mites. Entomological Society of America Miscellaneous Publications. 82-83. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Several eriophyid rust mites are important and have been recently recognized as pests on timothy grass. They live and feed in the grooves of the leaves, are cold-adapted, and populations begin to grow gradually in the fall and peak in the spring. Damage can cause up to 50% yield loss and results in poor quality hay. Infested plants become stunted and display yellowed and curled leaves. This chapter also describes the biology and importance of other mites on grasses. |
