Effects of Berry Fruits on Neurocognitive Deficits Produced by Exposure to Space Radiation. In: Arora, R. Herbal Radiomodulators Applications in Medicine, Homeland Defence and Space. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: On exploratory class missions to other planets astronauts will be exposed to different types of radiation than experienced in low-earth orbit. In addition to its carcinogenic effects, cosmic rays have the potential to cause neurocognitive deficits which can interfere with the successful completion of mission requirements. The research reviewed in this paper shows that diets containing antioxidant phytochemicals have the capacity to ameliorate both the neurocognitive and tumorigenic effects of exposure to the types of radiation which will be encountered by astronauts on missions to explore other planets. |
