Interpretive Summary: Crinkle disease of hop was first described in Europe in 1930, and subsequent reports of the disease appear in literature published in the 1960s and 1970s. The disease appears to be of little importance in most regions of hop production, although crinkle disease was listed among the most important diseases of hop in Poland in the 1960s. A review of the body of knowledge on this disease is presented.

Technical Abstract: Crinkle disease of hop was first described in Europe in 1930, and subsequent reports of the disease appear in literature published in the 1960s and 1970s. The disease appears to be of little importance in most regions of hop production. A fastidious rickettsia-like organism (RLO) is thought to cause crinkle disease, although definitive evidence for the casual agent is lacking because the presumptive pathogen has not been grown in axenic culture. A review of the body of knowledge on this disease is presented.
