Interpretive Summary: The mosquito genus Danielsia Theobald is characterized based on the morphology of females, female genitalia, males, male genitalia, pupae, and fourth-stage larvae. Distinctive characters of the genus are discussed and included species are listed along with information on distribution and bionomics. The type species is described in detail. An extensive list of previous literature pertaining to the genus is provided with references cited. The publication of better information on diagnosing the genus will be useful to agencies responsible for mosquito control and for the investigation of mosquito-borne diseases. This work was completed at the Center for Medical, Agricultural and Veterinary Entomology of the United States Department of Agriculture. The article will be published in the Zootaxa. Technical Abstract: Genus Danielsia and its type species, Dn. albotaeniata, are described in detail. An extensive list of previous literature pertaining to the genus is provided. Species of Danielsia include Dn. albotaeniata, Dn. harperi and Dn. lepchana. Information on the distribution and bionomics of the genus is given. |
