Nueva dieta artificial para la producción masiva de Phymastichus Coffea (Himenóptera: Eulophidae) parasitoide de la broca del café, Hypothenemus hampei (Coleoptera: Scolytidae). Entomological Society of Peru. XLIX Resumenes p. 35. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Phymastichus coffea (La Salle), (Hymenoptera: Eulophydae) is a parasitic wasp that attacks the adult coffee berry borer, Hypothenemus hampei (Ferrari) when it is tunnel into the berry. In 2001 a small colony of this parasitoid was introduced from CENICAFE, Colombia into United States to develop an inexpensive mass rearing method. The rearing method technique developed in this study was the first attempt on mass rearing P. coffea on H. hampei reared on artificial diet. The new diet consisted in parchment coffee, agar, egg, yeast, benomil, and benzoic acid. Approximately 230.000 parasitoids female and male (1.2: 1) were obtained from one liter of diet. The approach described in this study should be considered as an important step towards a compressive understanding for rearing colony management for P. coffea. |
