Determination of growth stimulating activity of 'Rhizoginin-S' on cell cultures used in virology [abstract]. FEBS Journal 275(Suppl. 1):402. Abstract No. PP8-64. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: We have developed a new bioregulator based on phosphoinositol (PI), designated Rhizoginin-S, which stimulates plant cell division very effectively. The invention of Rhizoginin-S was only possible after development of a simple and effective method of preparation PI, U.S. patent (4,977,091). Development of a new culture system without protein supplements from animal sources will generate safer vaccines. The purpose of our work was to investigate the effect of Rhizoginin-S on the growth of mammalian cells in tissue culture. It was established that BHK-21 cell incubated with Rhizoginin-S yielded higher cell numbers than cells incubated with medium containing buffer and serum or with medium containing nutrient medium and serum. The proliferation indexes of BHK-21 cells incubated with Rhizoginin-S, with medium or with medium containing serum were 1.2, 0.8 and 1.0 accordingly. In addition, BHK-21 cell incubated with Rhizoginin-S exhibited very well defined nucleolus. Thus, the data suggested that Rhizoginin-S has a moderate stimulatory effect on the growth of tissue culture cells. |
