Interpretive Summary: Weevils are one of the largest families of beetles with many agricultural pest species. Numerous errors and misinterpretations of their true identities have occurred over the past 250 years. This scientific note clarifies the scientific name of a weevil species and the systematic position of another. This note will ensure that scientists, biologists, and quarantine staff can refer to the same organism by a unique name. Technical Abstract: The following nomenclatural changes are proposed in the Coleoptera, Curculionidae: the author of Apostasimerini is Schoenherr (1844), not Lacordaire (1866); Madopterini Lacordaire, 1866 is demoted to subtribe of Apostasimerini; Erirhinus mourei Bondar, 1943 is a new synonym of Apostasimerus serrirostris Schönherr, 1884; Monteus complanatus Bondar, 1943 is transferred from Apostasimerina to Tonesiina. |
