In: Mahaffee, W.F., Pethybridge, S.J., and Gent, D.H. editors. Compendium of Hop Diseases and Pests. St. Paul, MN: APS Press. p. 73-74. Interpretive Summary: This chapter presents information on the etiology and management of Hop cone early maturity caused by Podosphaera macularis. Technical Abstract: Hop cone early maturity is thought to be caused by diffuse infections of cone, just prior to harvest, by Podosphaera macularis. The disease is best managed by limiting the amount of leaf infection by P. macularis prior to bloom. The yield and quality reductions associated with Hop cone early maturity can be reduced by harvesting a few days earlier than predicted by dry matter analyses. |
