CottonDB: A database for cotton research [abstract]. Proceedings of the Beltwide Cotton Conferences, January 5-8, 2009, San Antonio, TX. 2009 CDROM. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: CottonDB, established in 1995, was among the first plant genome databases established by the USDA-ARS. The goal of CottonDB is to serve both as an archival and a dynamic database that incorporates data from all major categories of genetic and genomic information created by the cotton research community. Recent enhancements of significance to the database include migration of data to a new home, http://cottondb.org; integration of several common useful visualization tools such as CMap Viewer, Web BLAST Server, WebFPC Viewer; and inclusion of a Quick Queries page which helps users to expedite access onto the most frequently asked queries. Currently the database contains about 10,000 germplasm accessions, over 7,000 of them with trait evaluation scores; pedigrees of over 600 cultivars; 4,600 published research articles; over 459,000 gene, EST, and contig sequences; 14,000 primers and probes; and 40 genetic maps with over 22,000 mapped loci. We will continuously collect, consolidate, and integrate data generated from ongoing genetic and genomic research efforts and make these data available to the cotton scientific community. |
