Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: This chapter describes the ascomycete yeast genus Komagataella and is to be published in "The Yeasts, A Taxonomic Study, 5th edition." The genus Komagataella was derived from the genus Pichia following a multigene phylogenetic analysis. The three known species assigned to Komagataella are indistinguishable on standard identification tests and separation requires gene sequence analysis. Komagataella (Pichia) pastoris is widely used for gene expression and is sold in a kit by Invitrogen. However, gene sequencing revealed that the Invitrogen K. pastoris is actually K. phaffii, a recently described species. |
