Interpretive Summary: Eleven families of true bugs are commonly called seed bugs because of their preference for feeding on ripe seeds up on plants or seeds that have fallen to the ground. The seed bugs treated in this paper form a worldwide group containing several pest species, such as the cottonseed bug, which causes million of dollars in damages to cotton each year. This species was discovered in South America and the West Indies, and is now threatening to invade the United States. Recently we discovered another species of seed bug from Argentina that is new to science. Although the habits of this new bug are unknown, it was taken in pitfall traps, suggesting that it is a ground-inhabiting species. This new bug is described and illustrated and its relationship with other seeds bugs is discussed. This information will be of interest to a wide array of researchers working in pest management, biological control, and plant pest quarantine.

Technical Abstract: The new genus Notocoderus and the new species N. argentinus are described from Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, based on two specimens taken in pitfall traps. Dorsal and lateral digital images of this new subbrachypterous oxycarenid and Dycoderus picturatus Uhler, known only from the Arizona and Colorado in the United States, are provided and their relationships with each other and other oxycarenids are discussed. A lectotype for D. picturatus is designated.
