Interpretive Summary: Ascochyta blight of chickpea has been a major yield constraint in the US and elsewhere. This article is to provide an update of current research on the disease and increase awareness of the disease in advance of the upcoming Ascochyta 2009, the second International Ascochyta Workshop to be held on the campus of Washington State University from June 28 to July 2, 2009. The survival mechanisms and disease cycle of the pathogen Ascochyta rabiei is reviewed and current management practices are discussed. Pictorial guide on identifying the disease is provided.
