Interpretive Summary: As the ethanol industry continues to expand, more coproduct materials, especially distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) will become available. Currently, it is used for animal feed, primarily beef, dairy, swine, and poultry rations. DDGS also may be a potentially viable alternative protein source for aquafeeds. For this purpose, however, it must be used as one component of a balanced feed, not as an entire feed by itself. This presentation will discuss investigations into extrusion of tilapia feeds using DDGS as a protein source. Processing of DDGS with other feed ingredients can add value and improve the utilization of this ethanol manufacturing coproduct.
