Dicistroviridae. In: King, A.M.Q., Adams, M.J., Carstens, E.B., Lefkowitz, E.J., editors. Taxonomy of Viruses. Oxford, England: Elsevier. p. 840-845. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: The Dicistroviridae family comprises viruses infecting both beneficial arthropods such as honey bees and shrimp and insect pests of medical and agricultural importance. During the last five years, advances in sequencing and phylogenetic analysis have led to the discovery and identification of several new viruses classified into this family. The chapter, Dicistroviridae, as a part of the 9th Report of the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) summarizes the 1) taxonomic structure, 2) virion properties, 3) genome organization and replication, 4) antigenic properties, and 5) biological properties of dicistroviruses. The phylogenetic relationship within the family and similarity with other taxa are also discussed. The new ICTV report provides an effective way to update the state of virus taxonomy and should be of interest to the virus research community. |
