Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Twenty P450’s in the CYP monooxygenases were identified in the Asian citrus psyllid, Diaphorina citri Kuwayama (Hemiptera: Psyllidae). The psyllid is responsible for the transmission of Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus, the causative agent of huanglongbing ( HLB), also known as citrus greening disease. Aggressive use of insecticides is the principal component of the current management strategy to control HLB and its psyllid vector. Therefore appearance of resistance to insecticides should be closely monitored. Cytochrome P450 monooxygenases (CYPs) are detoxifying enzymes involved in pesticide resistance. We present the identification and annotation of Cytochrome P450 monooxygenases in D. citri. Mining of the available EST datasets, we analyzed 20 CYP candidates which were identified and annotated through comparative analyses. No member belonging to the mitochondrial clade was identified. The completion of D. citri genome will permit further identification and creation of a complete catalog of CYP genes in these psyllids.
