Neotypification of Catalpa speciosa (Bignonioides). Taxon. 60(6):1760-1763. Interpretive Summary: The northern or hardy catalpa is widely cultivated in urban areas of the eastern United States. It was discovered that there was no characteristic collection designated for it. A characteristic collection insures its proper identification by comparison. A characteristic collection is designated for the northern or hardy catalpa. Technical Abstract: The valid publication and typification of Catalpa speciosa are discussed. The valid publication of C. bignonioides var. speciosa is clarified. Its first apparent neotypification is shown to be invalid, and a neotype is here designated for the variety. |
