Interpretive Summary: New citrus rootstocks are urgently needed in Florida that are tolerant to common diseases and highly productive of good quality fruit. US-942 is a new citrus rootstock developed by USDA that produces semi-dwarf trees and has exhibited good production and field performance along with tolerance to many of the common pests and diseases. US-942 rootstock is easily and uniformly propagated by seed and will immediately become available for commercial use in Florida.

Technical Abstract: A new citrus rootstock, US-942 is hereby released by the Agricultural Research Service to nurserymen and growers. This rootstock selection originated from a cross of Sunki mandarin × Flying Dragon Trifoliate Orange. US-942 rootstock yields semi-dwarf and productive trees that have excellent fruit quality and are tolerant to endemic disease and pest problems. The major positive attributes of this new rootstock are ease of seed propagation, resistance or tolerance to citrus tristeza virus, citrus blight, and Phytophthora root diseases, as well as a semi-dwarfing effect on scion tree size, induction of good fruit quality, and induction of good fruit productivity per tree and per canopy volume.
